Children at Edwards Hall learn to spell through investigating spelling patterns and rules, and applying them to words, rather than just learning long lists of words. Spelling is taught every day through Phonics in EYFS and KS1 and during English lessons in KS2.

However, there are some words in the English language that do not conform to regular spelling patterns. These need to be learned separately.

There are lots of ways to remember how to spell a word. We encourage children to make links and find their own strategies.

The following document gives guidance and activities to help children with their Spellings.
